PUBLIC VIRGINITY TEST

Culture is undoubtedly a People's way of life. This includes their world-views, beliefs and norms and by extension the way they dress, what they eat, drink amongst others. It may be argued that no matter how old and revered, a Culture changes. Scholars and cultural observers have established that there are certain endogenous and exogenous factors that may foster cultural and social changes. These include education, civilization and communication. These three arguably may be considered key drivers of cultural change in the absence of slavery, colonialism, epidemics and violence.
The contention here is that there should be no country in the 21st century world that is not exposed to education, communication and civilization. Thus, the aforementioned should reflect on their cultures. Africa no doubt parades myriads of admirable cultures celebrated and appreciated.Despite the importance and meanings attached to such cultures in their given societies, they have overtime been modified to fit into present dispensation and generation. It could therefore be enthused that Culture is made for Man, not Man for culture. In Swaziland, one may be forced to have a rethink before saying this. The case there is different.women are made to engage in a street carnival with bare fireballs and uncovered downsides in the name of culture. Your view may differ but I think this tradition does not only appear barbaric but archaic and gender uneven. The climax of this Carnival of nudity is greeted with "public testing" of girls for virginity before their god-like king adds more wives to his league...the pictures tell more:

Would you say that education and civilization have. Not reached the Swazis? Or that education and civilization can not truly foster cultural change as put forward by cultural observers?

Watch "Grama don do' the show of the season.

'Grama Don Do' directed by fast rising Film and Theatre Director Austine Lordlaz,  is a satirical play which centers at two levels - The first is between a couple with different  backgrounds and cultural orientation and the other between two intellectuals with different academic background and exposure . Okoro, the central character is illiterate, but married to Queen, a school teacher. Andy is Okoro's brother, highly educated in philosophy but jobless. Every  character has an area of comparative strength, but instead of pulling forces together to overcome common challenges, they prefer to live in turbulence until the Landlord calls them to order and instills into them some words of wisdom. Between the hilarious dialogues and grammatical 'bombardments', the play communicates the need for people to synergize to realize optimum value from their relationships. The rendition blends the musical form with regular dialogue in diehard comedy that 'serves another tension-relieving pill to the audience' and helps them to unwind after the pressures of the day or season.
